New Lord Advocate must be independent - 04 October 2006 Speaking this afternoon (Wednesday) following the resignation of Colin
Boyd as Lord Advocate, Shadow Justice Minister Kenny MacAskill
called for his replacement to be independent of the Scottish government.
Mr MacAskill said:
"Colin Boyd's time in office will be under a cloud until we have a full
public inquiry into the case of Shirley McKee.
"This whole episode has only underlined the need for any future
appointee to be independent of Ministers.
"Scotland's justice system needs an independent, professional law
officer, not another hired politician." |
