CHRISTMAS MESSAGE

2011 has been a busy year.  It’s hard to believe that Christmas is nearly upon us.    The Christmas break gives us a chance to reflect upon the last year and look forward to the New Year ahead.

For many, 2011 was another difficult year.  Recent global events have shown that the financial crisis is far from over.  These are tough times.  Families across Edinburgh and throughout the country are feeling the pinch as the Tory cuts begin to bite. As food and energy prices have increased, ordinary working families have been forced to tighten their belts.

However, I do hope that all those in my constituency get a chance to relax over the festive period.  Families and friends will gather, share some quality time together and enjoy a well earned break.

Of course, there are many for whom Christmas Day is another working day.  Many emergency services workers, social care workers and hospital staff will report for work as normal on 25thDecember.   Our troops aboard will do the same.  They deserve our thanks.

Throughout this year, I have very much enjoyed working with residents, community organisations and schools within the area.  I would like to thanks these groups and organisations for all they contribute to the community.

During 2012, I will continue to try my best to stand up for the community and represent your views.  If you have an issue or concern you would like to raise, please feel free to contact my office or drop by one of my MSP surgeries held throughout the constituency.

To all my constituents, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2012.
